About Me
About Me

During my childhood, the most impacting moment in my life was being torn from my home in Puerto Rico when my father joined the US Army. I was afraid because I attributed this physical place as the source of my culture, language, and music. After some time I learned that I could hold on to those things if I worked hard to preserve them. One of my proudest achievements was to return home and study at the University of Puerto Rico, Humacao. I proved to myself that I was able to reintegrate back into the source of my culture. Now I am armed with the knowledge that my culture lives within me and it will only die if I allow it to.

Why did I start this blog? I think there are many people out there that are afraid like I used to be of losing their identity and their culture. I want to share the things that I hold dear from my Puerto Rican roots in hopes that they serve to keep other Boricuas connected to their culture. Just like the Boricua en la Luna poem says: “I would be Borincano even if I was born on the moon.”
